Pop Culture And A Black Man's Diary

Happy Wednesday to you!  There's just so much going on in the world of American Pop Culture.  I don't really know where to begin!  While blog hopping today, I discovered some wonderful blogs!  Great art work, interesting posts, and lots of hilarious articles!

I Found A Great, Funny Site While Foraging Around Today!

There's one in particular that I just have to mention first!  It's a cool little entertainment blog called Black Man's Diary.  The tag line is "Funny as High-Water Pants."  I just got off the floor from all the laughter!  The blogger writes of the grave misfortune that he suffers with his unwanted house guests. They go so far as to attend his neighborhood watch meetings!  Now how funny is that?!

Join My Thirty Days of Downright Politically UNcorrect Photos and Videos

I got the greatest idea for a blog post from a wonderful site called Room 704 while out foraging about on the Internet on a pop culture huntFirst, let's talk about the site itself.  It's the cutest, girlie blog intended for mommies to get away whenever they can carve out a little time for themselves.  As we know, this can be quite a daunting task in our world sometimes, but a necessary and healthy choice nonetheless.

A Brief Blog Review of Room 704

Anyway, the blog's motto is:  "Cuss, Discuss, Relax, Define.  It's your room."  Now you know I can dig that!  Needless to say, I felt most at home.  LOL...  The tagline is "Truth served in a cosmo glass."  Delicious!  I just love it!

You can even join hosts Victoria, Leslie, and Dawn on their radio show, on which they offer advice on Monday nights at 11:30 pm EST/ 8:30 pm PST.  You can listen in online on Blog Talk Radio.  Catch it in a feed reader on iTunes also.

On the blog, you will find all sorts of reviews of interest to women.  There are also all kinds of great ideas to bring mommies together just for the fun of it all.  It's also a place where you can go to get resources to promote your motherhood blog, which brings me to the great idea that I found while bar hopping...  e' HEM...  blog hopping.

I'm Entering The Thity Days of { } Challenge

The blog's publishers have begun a challenge called "30 Days of { }."  You fill in the blanks.  The object here is decide to do something for thirty days and be consistent with it.  So I'm in.  Hopefully you are too!  I have decided to post funny and/ or politically UNcorrect pictures, cartoons, and video clips found on the Internet here on the blog each day for the next thirty days. The first day of each month, a new challenge begins, so today is a fresh start.  It's never too late though.

Twittery When Wet: My Pop Culture Experiment

Whatever you do, just make sure that you're careful when Twittering.  If you're not careful, this fairly new phenomenon can be quite addictive, to say the least.  In fact, I'm having a friend submit this post for me, as I'm now in Twitter rehab, which is also a new phenomenon. I'll post about that later so be sure to keep following.  See what I mean?  There I go again with the lingo!

Why I Joined Twitter In The First Place

Quite honesly, I joined because my mother asked me to check it out and see what all the hubbub was about.  Her friends Whoopi, Joy, Elisabeth, Sherri, and Barbara are always talking about it on "The View."

In all truth, I too was interested in learning what all this chirping and tweeting was all about, so I joined and my page looks rather beautiful if I do say so myself.  Check it out.

My Sweet Tweet Retreat Findings & Interesting Imposters:

So I've spent some time conducting my research on this pop culture experiment and have some humorous and interesting findings to report, as well as a bit of advice.  I had a lot of fun doing this.  Here's some of what I found:
  • You can use Twitter to discover lots of cool people, sites, blogs, and resources all over the Internet.
  • It's a nice tool that many people, companies, actors, recording artists, etc. use for promoting themselves, their sites, albums, television shows, events, etc.
  • It's an easy way to connect with people who share your interests.
The people with whom you connect and follow on Twitter are not...  I repeat...  are not your real friends!  These are people whose photographs are clicked and if you're lucky, they click your photo and follow you back. You don't really know those people.  They don't really know you.  In some cases, they are not really who they say they are.

Take Steve Harvey, comedian from "The Kings of Comedy," for example.  Nene Leakes, my all time favorite character from The Real Housewives of Atlanta reality TV show reports in a tweet regarding Steve Harvey, "Steve is not on twitter! It's a fake person. He told me personally he doesn't have the time."  I'm following this person!  Many others are too!

Who's Really Tweeting You?

I also found that many people don't actually read their tweets or respond to them personally or at all.  Some people have staff members doing this for them.  Others just chirp about promoting whatever they're promoting and pay no attention to the tweets of others.  Who really has the time to do it all anyway?

Here's proof.  Take a look at my Twitter updates below.  I'm following both President Barrack Obama and The White House.  Here's my message to him:

"Dear Mr. Pres. Will you please come over for dinner?"

Now here's the president's tweet back to me:

You can listen to the message here, or read it below:

CRICKETS!  As you can plainly see, there's nothing!  I got no response, probably because HE DOESN'T KNOW ME!  And to think...  my entire family waited up all night long!  The food was delectable, nonetheless.  No regrets!

Overall, I have found Twitter to be fun.  I've discovered some interesting Blogs, people, and imposters on the web.  As soon as I get a handle on this addiction and get out of Twitter rehab, I'll post about my funny findings.  Oh, there are many!
